Design & Production

So how do we make these remarkable coins? We take a tried and tested path to perfection:

Step One – The Brief

Our designers start with a detailed brief which describes what the coin or collection of coins is supposed to achieve. Will it mark a particular occasion or event? What are the considerations? Where and when will it be available? What metal would you like to use? How will it be presented?

Step Two – Design

Our artists then sit down to create a timeless collector’s piece using pin sharp etching and highly detailed designs for both sides of your coin using the latest computer assisted design technology.

Step Three – Discs

We then prepare the metal discs used to make the coins. They are cut out, turned, polished and cleaned in machines using special brushes and polishing pastes. This is a stage that cannot be rushed and to remove even the smallest scratches and cracks, polishing can take hours.

Step Four - The Stamp

The 3D files and vector graphics are analysed by our production technicians who work out the best production method for each specific coin design. They then scan the graphics and make real sized steel prototypes on an engraving machine. From these, stamps are made, polished, covered with chromium and tempered to improve their durability and productivity. The stamps are slowly tested under 120-160 tons of pressure to guarantee stamps of the highest quality and samples are checked to ensure they are flawless.

Step Five – Manufacturing

If the stamp is perfect, it is installed in the coin press which produces only a few units per minute to guarantee the highest quality.

Step Six – Distribution

The coins are then packaged and distributed to our client sites or stocked by us in our onsite coin dispensing machines (souvenir vending machines).
